How Often Should You Really Wash Your Sheets?

There's nothing like sliding into fresh sheets. But if we're honest, "fresh" often means whenever we remember, which for most of us is somewhere between "eventually" and "it's been a while."

Here's the number worth knowing: every 1-2 weeks.

Why it actually matters

It's not just about smell or softness. Every night, your sheets quietly collect sweat, natural body oils, dead skin cells, and dust mites, all the things you really don't want lingering close to your skin for eight hours at a time.

None of that is dramatic or gross to think about, it's just biology. But it's also exactly why a simple wash schedule makes such a difference to how your bed actually feels, and to your skin and sleep over time.

The simple rule of thumb

  • Every 1-2 weeks for most people
  • Weekly if you sleep without pyjamas, sweat more overnight, have allergies or sensitive skin, or share your bed with a pet
  • A little more relaxed if you shower before bed and sleep in fresh nightwear each night

There's no need to overthink it, a spot on the calendar, a recurring Sunday reminder, or simply "wash day" alongside your towels is enough to keep it consistent.

Small ritual, better rest

This is really what the FLEX Bedroom Care Series is about, small, doable habits that add up to a bedroom (and a night's sleep) that feels genuinely cared for. No overhauls, no guilt, just simple rituals done regularly.

This week's tip: pick a day, put it on repeat, and let fresh sheets become a habit rather than an afterthought.

New tip every Sunday, follow along for the next instalment in the series.
