Let Your Bed Breathe

There's a habit most of us skip without even realising it: making the bed the second we're out of it. It feels productive, but your bedding might actually prefer a few extra minutes first.

Here's the simple rule: let your bed breathe for 20-30 minutes before making it.

Why it actually matters

Overnight, your body releases warmth and moisture that gets trapped in your sheets and doona. Making the bed straight away seals all of that back in, which is exactly the environment dust mites and odour like best.

Pulling the covers back and letting some air in gives that moisture somewhere to go before everything gets tucked back into place.

The simple rule of thumb

  • Pull back your doona and top sheet as soon as you get up
  • Leave it for 20-30 minutes while you shower, have breakfast, or get ready
  • Open a window or curtains nearby if you can, it speeds things up

No need to leave your bed a mess all day, just a short pause before you make it.
